expERIEnce Children’s Museum – Digital Interactive Software & Audio-Visual

We designed and developed robust hands-on digital interactive software for three new digital exhibits at the newly renovated expERIEnce Children’s Museum in Erie, Pennsylvania including:

“Mini Masterpiece” which allows visitors to use a paint brush stylus or their finger to select a well-known masterpiece on the touchscreen and then touch/paint by touching the screen – they can see their artwork appear in real-time on the larger display above, and it’s saved into the playback rotation of visitors artwork. It includes a free-paint mode and a colouring book mode that they can interact with for each artwork (with a CMS for staff to update the artwork);

“Stop Animation” which allows visitors to create stop motion animations by selecting background scenes and moving elements in front of a camera, and using integrated push-buttons to capture still frame images, navigating between frames, and playing back their stop motion animations;

“Invent-It/Rocket Recording” which allows visitors to record themselves on-camera to describe their invention ideas – the software provides them with prompts, to record, playback, and submit their video which is then played on a video wall behind them and on displays on an adjacent wall, in a playback rotation with other visitors videos. An admin panel was developed and integrated to allow staff to easily monitor and manage visitor’s recordings.

We worked closely with the project team to provide durable hands-on digital interactive software solutions and AV hardware specifications for the exhibits that will endure heavy-usage from children and visitors of all ages.
